Touring the Greatbatch Medical Facility

On Tuesday, September 22, the Buffalo Chapter was able to experience first hand one of the best plants in North America.  After Mike Druding’s presentation of what we were about to see, we put on a lab coat, protective glasses, took off all jewelry, and left behind cameras and cell phones.

Taken through the plant in small groups we were able to see how several different lithium-based batteries are manufactured for pacemakers, implantable cardiac defibrillators, and neurostimulators.  It was amazing to see all these intricate parts being made, assembled, filled, welded, and inspected for perfection.

Greatbatch places high standards on safety, production, and the well being of their employees.  We appreciate the knowledge shared from each of the following tour guides:
Bill Blarr, Mike Druding, Pete McLaughlin, Dave Panek, Sam Graziano, Glenn Kraft, and Betsy Graney.

Thank you for making our tour VERY interesting!

After the tour we headed down the road to Ripa’s restaurant for dinner.
John Goller presented NTMA safety awards to Niagara Punch & Die and Palma Tool & Die.

We welcomed our newest Associate member Joe Dunworth and Steve Lazzara from Superior Lubricant and prospective member Tim & Mike Deakin from Val-Kro.

Safety Award receipiants  Bill Tate from Palma Tool & Die and Jayson Czerniak from Niagara Punch & Die.
